Thai Children

About Our Founder

Andrew JaconoT.H.A.I. Children was created by Andrew Jacono, a Manhasset High School student (Class of 2015), in May 2011. Ever since he was young, he has had a passion for helping others. This passion has led him to raise awareness about facial disfigurements in his community.

Starting from simple acts like giving money to the homeless while in Manhattan, he has since branched out and has raised over $50,000 for T.H.A.I. Children. Every dollar has gone to funding for surgeries.

Andrew has ventured on three medical missions. His first, to Bangkok, Thailand, was a huge success. The medical team repaired approximately 50 children’s facial disfigurements that ranged from cleft lip and palate deformities to burns and scars. His second mission to Santa Marta, Colombia, was also a huge success. The medical team repaired the faces of about 70 children with cleft lip and palate deformities. His third mission was to Quito, Ecuador. The medical team repaired the faces of 62 patients with microtia. Each trip has presented its own set of stories that Andrew has fervently documented.

Andrew aspires to be a professional fiction writer. He wrote his first novel, LUX, in eleventh grade, and he is currently searching for literary agents. Andrew has also taken a keen interest in mountain climbing after having summited Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, in July 2013. He has since climbed Pichincha, a volcano in Ecuador, and Mount Elbrus, the tallest mountain in Europe. He hopes to one day climb the Seven Summits, a feat that less than 350 people in the world have accomplished.
